The one robe here that is entirely silk.
100 per cent mulberry silk charmeuse at 19 momme, one size, with french seams, two pockets, sewn belt loops and a matching belt. It is the most expensive thing we sell and the fabric is the reason.
This is the only men's robe we sell that is actually silk. The other one, the Mens Silky Satin Lounge Robe, is a satin weave in polyester and costs roughly a third as much. Both are good. They are not the same thing.
The fabric is 100 per cent mulberry silk charmeuse at 19 momme, which is the right weight for a garment: heavy enough to hang properly, light enough to wear through an Australian summer.
It is made with french seams, so the seam allowance is enclosed and nothing raw sits against the skin. That is the detail that separates a silk robe worth keeping from one that irritates at the shoulder.

Satin is a weave, silk is a fibre
This trips people up constantly and shops are not always keen to clear it up. Satin describes how the threads are woven, not what they are made of. A satin can be woven from silk, polyester, viscose or nylon. So a satin robe may be silk and may not, and the only way to know is for the page to say. This robe is silk. The other men's robe on this site is polyester, and its page says so too.
What the difference buys
Silk breathes in a way polyester does not, which is a difference you notice in February rather than in a photograph. It takes dye with more depth, and it ages better: a good silk robe looks worn in after five years where a polyester one looks worn out.
